Meditation in Rishikesh
Sit with the teacher in Rishikesh.
People come to Rishikesh to meditate because the setting helps: the river, the mountains and a long tradition of practice. But the setting is only the beginning. What makes the difference is clear instruction and the chance to ask a teacher about your own experience. At Sanatan Yoga Vidya Kendra, meditation is taught in person by Yogi Shri G. Niranjan.
How meditation is taught here
Each session combines an exploration of the subject, a meditation technique and time to share experience and receive guidance. The techniques come from the classical sources — the Yoga Sutras, the Upanishads and especially the Vigyan Bhairav Tantra, a text that describes a large number of methods using breath, sound, space and sensation. You are helped to choose one method that suits you and to practice it well.
What you will practice
- A stable seat and a quiet breath.
- Concentration on a single support (dharana).
- Awareness of breath, sound and the space between thoughts.
- Working with restlessness, dullness and doubt.
- A daily sadhana you can take home and keep.
